Intent to establish pool of candidates for future open positions

 

The Brown County Public Safety Department is currently accepting applications to establish a pool of candidates for the Telecommunicator Position in the 911 dispatch center.  The starting salary is $19.32 per hour increasing over two years to $20.39 per hour.  Brown County does offer health and dental plans, the ability for its employees to purchase life insurance, entrance into the Wisconsin Retirement System, in addition to vacation and sick pay.  Telecommunicators are trained to handle administrative as well as 911 calls and radio dispatching for all of the Fire, EMS, and Police Departments that are served by Brown County Public Safety, and they will report directly to the on duty Shift Supervisor.  The ideal candidate with have a high aptitude for multi-tasking, strong typing and analytical skills, the ability to excel in stressful and at times emotionally charged situations, superb customer service skills,  high moral character, and history of adherence to state and local laws and ordinances.  Candidates should have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED, and will be required to pass a background, credit, and reference check.  If a candidate is chosen for employment they will be required to work shift work, holidays, and weekends on a rotating schedule of five days on/three days off five days on/two days off.  It is required that employees are available to work overtime before and/or after their shifts.  All Telecommunicators are required to pass an initial twelve week training program, and complete certification in CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch.  If you would like to be considered for this position please submit an application on our website or in person by August 20th, 2010 at 4:30 p.m..   If you would like additional information regarding this position please see the employment section of our website

Communicator

Dane County (Madison, Wisc.) Department of Public Safety Communications (9-1-1), starting hourly wage is $19.77 with further merit increases to $21.71, longevity pay of 3% to 12% of base salary and excellent benefits. We have professional positions for emergency dispatch personnel to receive and dispatch requests for 85 law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. Communicators process over 600,000 emergency and non-emergency calls annually and operate complex communications equipment. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibles list to become part of Dane County’s 9-1-1 public safety dispatch system. Requires:High school graduation and demonstrated ability to multi-task. Experience dispatching law enforcement, fire and/or emergency medical services is desirable. Must be able to type neatly and accurately and analyze and react quickly and effectively to stressful emergency communications situations. Must be available to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, holidays and during severe weather conditions. Must be able to pass background investigations, including fingerprinting. After employment, must maintain current Wisconsin TIME System Advanced and National Academy of Emergency Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatch-Advanced and Emergency Fire Dispatch certifications. Anticipated exam process: 1) Candidates must complete and submit an official Dane County Public Safety Communications Application for Employment and the Communicator Achievement History Questionnaire. 2) A three-hour computerized exam series that includes a pass/fail data entry exam is tentatively scheduled for the end of July or the first week of August 2010.
